According to Time, the next total solar eclipse in the contiguous United States will occur on August 12, 2044. This eclipse will be visible in totality in Montana and North Dakota. Before 2024, the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous US occurred on February 26, 1979.

Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, blocking all of the Sun's light. The path of totality, where the total eclipse will be visible, will cross Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Canada.

NASA has released a new map showing the paths of the 2023 and 2024 solar eclipses in the United States. The map was updated on March 15, 2023, to correct times in Mexico.
